17 takeaways from the past season

The season behind us was quite interesting and full of events. We decided to single out 17 takeaways that left the most impressions on us. We have tried to list the most important things, regardless of whether they are in a positive or negative context. The impressions are not ordered or ranked in any way, we tried to arrange them and round them into wholes.

1. RK Rad ended Partizan's dominance in the Serbian Championship

We cannot say that the Serbian Championship this year was too interesting and uncertain. In the end it was a race between two clubs, Partizan and Rad. To be honest, this has been the situation for several seasons. If we single out the matches of these two teams, we can say that it was interesting, and that during the previous few seasons. There was nothing less in the season that is now behind us. We had the opportunity to see three very interesting, which ultimately decided the winner of the Serbian Championship. If you want to know more about the competition system, the results, the table and the list of scorers, you can see it on the page of our website.

Partizan celebrated in the first match of the season, when it won 17-12 at Ada Ciganlija. Then we had the opportunity to see the organized and disciplined defense of Partizan in action. If we add to that the doctoral game of Đorđe Preradojević, who was everywhere on the field, even though he played in that match in the first line. Should we add that he also converted three penalties. A longer bench, better organization and discipline were key factors in the match.

For Rad, the second match was to be or not to be. A possible victory for Partizan would also mean winning the fifth title in a row. Good preparation in the preseason led to Rad winning 43-20 in the end. In particular, Nemanja Stošić and Relja Pećanac stood out in the match, demonstrating a high level of play in defense. After the first half it was very uncertain 21-15 for Rad. But in the second part, the Građevinari put the match into fifth gear and eventually brought the game to an end. We must point out that Danijel Stojanović also presented himself in this match in the senior competition. With his age of 17 and the way he plays, he is accompanied by a significant look with a raised eyebrow.

In the game of the season, which decided who would win the title of Serbian Champion, Rad was better with a score of 31-21 and deservedly won the title. Alen Ćosović shine in this match, scoring as many as four tries, and at the end of the competition he was the best scorer of the Championship. Rad was the better team during most of the match, in 62nd minute of the match, the score was 28-0 for the team from Banjica. And then Partizan started a big offensive. They ended up scoring 21 points, but there was no time for a turnaround. With this victory, Rad mathematically secured the title of Serbian Champion, and ended the streak of Partizan who won the title 4 times in a row.

2. The disappointing end of the Serbian Cup

We were expecting the game of the season. The grand finale. Spectakle. And we got one big nothing. Namely, the match did not even take place. RK Partizan did not appear at the match, so the match was registered with the official result, and the cup was won by RK Rad without a fight. We really don’t want to comment on why this all happened and get into the issue of the relationship between RK Partizan and the Rugby Union of Serbia. He lost rugby, the players, the fans and all the fans of the egg ball sport who were looking forward and hoping for a good game. Something like this has never happened in the history of rugby in this area. We hope that it will not happen in the future.

3. Torpedo Mlava finished the season in his debut appearance in the Serbian Championship

It is no small matter in Serbian rugby when a team that debuts in the highest level of the competition manages to finish the season. When we add to the fact that this is only RK Torpedo Mlava’s third season in the competition, it adds even more importance. Petrovčani played a total of 9 games, out of which they recorded all 9 defeats. They managed to win 3 bonus points. They had no chance against Partizan and Rad, so they recorded convincing defeats. In the matches against RK Dinamo in 1954, they had their chances to win, they were very close to recording their first victory this season.

They played the first game against Pančevci in the spring part of the season, where Dinamo won 24-12. Torpedo missed too many opportunities in this match, so the essays by Miloš Vujčić and Novica Dimitrijević were not enough for a more favorable result. It should be noted that Dinamo only managed to break through at the end of the match and break away as a result. It remains unclear to us what was the reason for Torpedo’s slow play, specifically the slow ball from the ruck, where the momentum of the dominant scrum game was completely lost.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

The next match was extremely interesting and of high quality. The people of Petrovac entered the match very motivated. After the first half they had a 17-10 lead. Aleksandar Savić shine in the match, scoring a total of three tries. But what didn’t shine was the discipline. After a good half, first Vujčić received a red card at the very beginning of the second half. At 60th minutes it was tie 22-22 when Srđan Nikolić was aworded with yellow card. Against 13 players, Pančevci managed to close the game and in the end celebrate 39-27.

In the last match between the two rivals, there was no lack of uncertainty either. Torpedo had more of the ball in their hands this time, but made a lot more mistakes, too many unforced errors, dropped balls without being caught under pressure. After an uncertain first half, where Dinamo was leading 14-12, Ivan Voštić stepped onto the scene and unstuck Pančevci to a safe lead. But at the very end of the match, Savić scored an essay that reduced the score to 28-26. Dinamo manages to withstand the onslaught of the home team and finally wins against Torpedo for the third time. The progress is very visible, Torpedo has to work hard and wait patiently for his opportunity.

4. BRK Crvena Zvezda withdrew from the Serbian Championship for the second year in a row

The team from Ada Ciganlije played 4 games in the spring. It was defeated twice by Rad, and achieved two victories against Torpedo and Dinamo. However, they gave up the competition in the fall. One of the reasons for giving up is the small number of players in the senior competition. Also, the juniors didn’t really celebrate themselves at the beginning of the half-season, because they missed the first tournament because of the same thing. Admittedly, in the rest of the season, they were one of the better teams.

BRK Red Star managed to consolidate and form a team to compete in the Serbian Cup, where they were defeated by Partizan in the ½ final match with a score of 18-7. It is a good thing that they managed to play a good game against the favored Partizan, and it is even better that several young juniors got the opportunity to play in the starting line-up. We hope that BRK Crvena Zvezda will get into a positive rhythm from the next season and return to the top of Serbian rugby, where it belongs.

5. RK Dinamo recorded four victories in the Serbian Championship in 1954

Three of those four victories were against Torpedo from Petrovac na Mlava, which we described earlier in the text. While one victory was an official result against Partizan near the end of the season. They recorded five defeats against Rad and Partizan, which was expected. We must not forget that Dinamo played very uncertain games against BRK Crvena Zvezda, the first one they lost in the Serbian Championship 39-34, while the second one they lost in the 1/4 finals of the Serbian Cup 41-19. As close as Torpedo was to beating Dinamo, that’s how close Dinamo was to beating Zvezda.

Dinamo has a very young and promising team, which definitely needs to gain experience. In order to gain that experience, in the right way, the whole team is needed. During the whole season, Dinamo was playing with the number of players, where too often they were knapsacks, i.e. without changes. It is very difficult to motivate the players to play a game against Partizan and Rad, where defeat is expected, but it is absolutely necessary to learn lessons from each victory and each defeat. In order for that to happen, there must be numbers both at trainings and at matches. Without it, there is no progress. But frankly, a lot of Dinamo players are injured in the long term. Some have had serious injuries that take months to recover from, while others only have their vanity injured.

Some players absolutely took advantage of their opportunities, who improved tremendously this season. We have to mention a few line players. Here, above all, we are thinking of Ivan Voštić, who at the age of 19 was recognized as an exceptional prospect. We will only mention that he has been an indispensable member of the Serbian national team since the coach Mišel Milović took over, and he is also a member of the national team in rugby 7. Next to him, Milan Kuzmanović stood out, who we can say is the brain of the team, i.e. the main creator. We are especially looking forward to seeing the progress of Marko Košpić, who is one of the most talented rugby players in the region, fast as a bullet, fantastic in defense, a player who can decide the game with his moves. Let’s not forget about Bojan Nešić and Dušan Gavrilović, who were an extremely lethal center pair on both sides of the field.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

In the scrum, Dinamo has exceptional talent. First of all, we are thinking of Stefan Dramičanin, who can cover several positions. We expect even greater progress from David Pal and Vukašin Vasić in the next season. We expect them to be a dominant force in the years ahead. Among the more experienced players, there is Nikola Advigov, who is only 23 years old, but who seems to be much older. A lot of young people have yet to fill the Dinamo squad, so we can’t wait to see the young Panceva prospects in the senior competition.

We must also highlight Stefan Milevski, who finally returned to rugby after a long-term recovery from injury. The minutes and the time he spent in the game were dosed, but we can now say that Dinamo got a huge boost. And his time is yet to come. However, he is not the only one whose recovery we have been impatiently waiting for. There is also Aleksandar Krkljuš, whom we can’t wait to see again on the field. We sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to watch it already in the spring.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

We may have gone a little too far with announcing Dinamo’s players, but don’t forget that this generation of players is the taste of the U18 junior national team and represents the future of Serbian rugby. And we sincerely hope that he will also represent the Dinamo generation that will return to the very top of club rugby.

6. The Serbian national team is in a series of 5 victories in a row

This year 2022 will be well remembered in rugby history because we recorded four victories in the competition under the auspices of the European Rugby Federation. The whole process started at the beginning of the previous cycle, when Mišel Milović took over the selector’s baton. The whole process started at the beginning of the previous cycle, when Mišel Milović took over the selector’s baton. Although we suffered a defeat, the morale of the national team rose to a high level, because we started to play good rugby. Turkey was soon defeated 37-14 at home.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

In the spring, we continued with good games, first we beat Andorra 24-18, and in the last match we celebrated for the first time ever away from home in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a score of 38-19. We finished the competition in second place. There was a change in the competition system, where we still remained in Conference 2 South. But that didn’t change the way we played much. We were pretty convincing against Montenegro, which we defeated on home soil with a score of 62-0. In the end, they defeated Turkey 23-6 away from home. We are currently in first place in the group. In the next half-season, we have only one match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is scheduled for the 29th. of April, and which will decide who will be in first place.

It should be noted that the groups are locked for two years, so there will be no promotion to a higher rank at the end of the cycle. The European Rugby Federation made the whole mess and chaos around the competition and the locking of groups due to the change in the competition system in the Championship, where there are now 8 teams that are divided into two groups, where the playoffs are planned. No one can tell you for sure whether the points will be deleted or transferred at the end of the cycle.

7. Big tournament of Conference 1 of the European Rugby Federation in Belgrade

On the first weekend of June, the Conference 1 rugby 7 tournament was held. Stadium Kralj Petar Prvi in Banjica hosted 24 teams in men’s and women’s competition. A big organizational challenge that was successfully completed. The Rugby Union of Serbia drafted all its human resources in the organization of such an event. An event that was heralded as the event of the year, but nowhere near as significant and recognized by the audience as, say, a game of the National Rugby Team in 15. If you were to ask most of the people who had a work obligation at the tournament with whom Serbia was in the group, you would hardly get an accurate answer. And let’s not talk about whether anyone remembers an essay or an action from the tournament.

However, the importance of organizing such a manifestation is manifold. First, significant financial resources are accumulated by the Republic of Serbia, the City of Belgrade, the European Rugby Federation as well as the participants themselves. Which only means that more funds will be invested in Serbian rugby. Secondly, Serbian rugby presents itself as an excellent organizer, which can bring us the potential organization of another event in the future. Thirdly, it brings good promotions, where rugby is talked about. Rugby can only be popular if it is talked about and written about. No matter how good and interesting something is, it will never become popular if it is not talked about. When you combine that with quality photography and video, you have all the tools you need for good promotion.

8. Modest performance of the Rugby 7 national team of Serbia

When you play a tournament at home, where you have one win and five losses, it cannot be characterized in any way other than as a very modest result. In the end, we took eighth place in the overall ranking. We have to be honest and say that we were not too lucky with the draw, especially in the ¼ final where we met Switzerland, who eventually won the tournament. The only match where we played poorly and were disappointed was the match against Montenegro, which we lost 15-14 in the last moments of the match. This is the second time in a row that Montenegrins beat us in the tournament. Then we had a good match with Cyprus, which we won 22-12, but in the end they lost to the favored Turkey with a score of 26-0.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

In the ¼ final we lost to Switzerland, quite convincingly 43-7. Then it is in the playoff from 5th to 8th position another convincing defeat followed, this time against Austria 39-7 and finally a defeat against Andorra with a score of 42-24. All in all, not a very good performance from the Eagles, who were certainly seen before the start of the tournament in the upper part of the table. But, be that as it may, the tournament in Serbia awaits us again next year and a new opportunity to achieve a good result.

We believe that the best thing would be if the Serbian rugby 7 team was made up of young players, who would gain valuable experience in this way. When we say youth, we mean primarily U23 players, where we could gather and hone the talent in which we invested a lot of resources in the younger categories. It would be very strategically irresponsible not to do so. Rugby 7s has been played in the U18 junior competition for several years now, and we can make the most of it. The youngsters have a lot of quality and we think they would achieve a much better result than we had this year. Let’s just remember season 2010. when we had a young squad that won the rugby 7s tournament and made one of the biggest successes.а.

9. U18 junior national team achieved excellent results

After a long-term comeback in the development of younger categories, finally in 2015. started with systemic solutions and long-term investments. A year after that, the players were born in 2004th started coaching rugby in U12 boys. Here, after almost 6-7 years of continuous work, we can see the results. In working with young people, you cannot expect short-term results if you are looking for quality along with quantity. It is a long-distance race, where you have no assurance that you will be able to finish it successfully. But the reward is huge. Currently, we have a situation where 5 clubs compete in the U18s competition. Players for the U18 national team are selected from those clubs.

The European Rugby Federation has made a decision that nations like us do not send more selections to eight-team tournaments, because it is too expensive, and it does not make sense for countries without a stable U18 competition in rugby 15 to participate in this format. We absolutely agree with that. Instead, a decision was made to hold camps and workshops where the three nations would participate and then play matches against each other. That’s how it was last spring in Zagreb, where our U18 national team took part along with Croatia and Bulgaria. After the training, short matches were successful, where the players narrowly defeated Croatia 7-5, and later Bulgaria 24-0.

Photo: Tijana Vesović

At the camp itself, an agreement was made that the teams would play matches between themselves until the end of the year. Thus, first Serbia hosted Bulgaria in Petrovac na Mlavi and celebrated with a score of 51-8. The Eagles were in a very high rhythm and played quite fast. In the second match, Serbia hosted Croatia in Zagreb and won 15-0. It seemed that the score would be much higher, but we simply did not play fast enough and at a high tempo, we made a lot of unforced errors. And in the end, the Croats beat Bulgaria away 27-5 and completed the cycle.

Photo: Tijana Vesović

We can be extremely satisfied with the performances of our U18 national team. Beating Croatia away from home without conceding a point is a pretty good level. With the fact that our limit is much more than the current results and the game provided. We also have to point out that the player from France Uroš Pucar made his debut for our team, who played as a winger in the third line and who proved to be an exceptional prospect and a player who should be seriously counted on in the senior team.

10. Affirmation of players from U18s to senior level

The most interesting thing for which we don’t have a strategy, but we really should create one, even more so it should be a priority. Players are trained in the younger categories, and when they leave the U18 juniors, they are not yet formed. In every sport, including rugby, special attention is paid to the development of players until they are 23 years old. Look at the example of the French, whose academies have U23 and U20 selections, they do not send players to federal clubs, but pay special attention to their development.

This year it happens that a large number of the outgoing junior generation have taken a place in senior rugby. But it’s one thing when a place is taken to fill a number and have 15 players to start a match, and then you brag about how you have a team, it’s another thing how much you really develop the players. In the next few years, we will have a situation where more and more young people train in rugby, and players from several clubs come to the older categories. Young players need time, an awful lot of time and patience to develop to their full potential. And we really have the potential.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

That’s why it’s important that we overcome the old problem, which is to fill the holes in the teams with young people, and put them in positions that are not theirs. Or their limited time. Or they are used by coaches as inventory during training. In the earlier period, young people very often held peds during training sessions, while the older ones, who perform in the first lineup and practice for the game, were knocked into them. To make matters worse, it also happened in the national team. Who knows how many young prospects have stopped training rugby because of such things. It is such a waste of time and resources that we are speechless.

Quality young players are coming. Find space for them to play in their positions and develop. Yes, they will play badly, they will make mistakes, they will position themselves poorly, they will communicate poorly, but they will learn from those mistakes and improve their game. We almost had the chance to see a young player start for a club on the wing, which is not his natural position. A matchup was automatically won because he had very fast and mobile players on the other side. He was extremely frustrated, because that is not his position. At the same time, the player is an exceptional playmaker and a very good shooter. Instead of learning and developing in his position, he patched up a place in the team. Special attention should be paid to such things, if of course we want to work on the quality of players in Serbia. If we don’t want to, then let’s give the young people peds and let the veterans knock on them until their steeling is finished.

11. A very interesting series of tournaments of the Serbian Championship for U18s

We cannot say that there was something too uncertain, because RK Rad was in the end sovereignly first. But that’s why we can say that it was very interesting. If you have attended junior tournaments, then you can testify in favor of this claim. To remind, this half-season was played a series of 4 tournaments of the Serbian Championship. Find out more about the competition system itself, as well as the results, tables and list of scorers, on the page of the Serbian Championship for U18s.

Three of the four tournaments were won by the Rad team, while one tournament was won by the Kruševac team. And that’s exactly where we come to that moment of interest. Until the end of the spring part of the competition, the people from Kruševac were at the bottom of the table. Not long after, they would win the tournament. We can absolutely say that they have finally matured and that they have several players who have made incredible progress, we are primarily referring to Veljko Mitic, who has become one of the leading options in attack. The main voice in the team is led by Nemalja Lazić, who grew into the leader of the team, and together with Aleksa Jovanović and the rest of the team, he imposed Kruševac as one of the favorites.

The main favorite Rad lived up to expectations and eventually won the Championship. As we announced at the beginning of the season, Danijel Stojanović, Matija Pelva and friends were the best during all the tournaments and deservedly lifted the cup intended for the winner of the Championship. I must point out that the U16 cadets of Rada, who were exceptional and showed great quality, bore a heavy load. It wasn’t easy for Rad, they had a pretty tough job against quality teams, but they managed to solve all the challenges that were put in front of them. It was particularly interesting that the vast majority of Rad’s junior players play in scrum positions. Dušan Jovanović and Boris Milojković play in the post positions, Uroš Jevđenijević and Noa Gruecmaker play in the second line, and Danijel Stojanović and Igor Švraka play in the third line.

BRK Crvena Zvezda started extremely slowly, where they even missed the first tournament. She had problems with injuries and numbers. However, when they consolidated, we got an extremely strong team, with very good individuals. And a good team is nothing more than a collection of good individuals. The main players of Zvezda are Momčilo Kralj, Lazar Jelisavčić, Nikola Pumpalović and Dragan Kokanović. As the competition progressed, the red and white team got better and better, as the results show. If they had the form of the last two tournaments at the beginning of the competition, who knows what the table would look like. That’s why you always work hard in the pre-season, so that you can be at a high level throughout the season.

We expected a lot in the junior competition from RK Dinamo in 1954. However, already after the spring part of the season, we knew that it would be difficult for Pančevci to do anything more in the junior competition, for two reasons. First, several players were injured, among others Milan Kuzmanović and Marko Košpić, who are the mainstays of Dinamo. Another reason is that the senior team had too many postponed games, and all the juniors have commitments in the senior competition. So, participation in two tournaments and the last place in the final standings is a realistic situation considering the circumstances.

Borac from Starčevo is the youngest team in the competition, where only one of the players is a junior. We definitely expected more from them, but on the other hand, they were not at a high level like in the spring, when they had several good placements. Jovan Radovanović was a constant threat when he had the ball in his hands because he is extremely fast. Aleksandar Avdiović was one of the better players both in attack and defense. The rest were average, they didn’t stand out too much. The game in defense and the game without the ball, which was static, without too much effect, were especially striking. But anyway, the spring part of the season and a new series of tournaments await us, so there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.

12. Golden generation - RK Rad U16s

We must single out this generation of RK Rad U16s. We would be wrong if we did not mention them, because they really had an exceptionally good season both in Serbia and abroad. They won the Serbian Championship convincingly in first place, with all the victories and without receiving an essay, which you will agree is quite an achievement. Don’t think that the competition is weak and that the result came from that. On the contrary. The U16s played very good rugby this year. Only Rad was at a much higher level.

If you are dominant at home, you will not be able to progress if you do not have an adequate opponent. This is precisely why it is important that the Građevinari had several trips and tours that they organized. At the beginning of the year, they took part in a tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina, then they were in Timişoara and Nagykoros, and at the beginning of November they made a nice tour in Italy, where they played against RK Bergamo 1950, for which our representative Janko Zemun Milinković, who was also host to our rugby players.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

Rad has a large number of quality players in its squad, who were born in 2006 and 2007. A large number of players have been training rugby for several seasons and have considerable experience playing in younger categories. If we could draw a parallel, perhaps we could compare them with the 1988/1989 generation of RK Rada, that is, the former RK Pobednik. We would even dare to say that they have much more potential. Time will tell.

When we just look at the line and scrum of that entire generation, we don’t know where they would start. In the first line, you have two very good pillars, like Ognjen Siljanovski and Aleksandar Ćirić, who are extremely penetrating and mobile props. There is also Petar Arnautović in the position of counter, who has a perfect hand and an excellent ball in the outfield. In the second line, you have Matej Petrović and Vuk Simić, who are very penetrating and fast. Vojin Simonović dictates the pace at the demi. In the line, you have Igor Gajić, who is an excellent playmaker, you have players like Milan Vesković, who seems to have no flaws, and Pavel Pelva, who are very fast. And there are Nikola Šmigić, Strahinja Glišić, Andrej Matić, Ognjen Martinović, Aleksa Milanković, as well as Uroš Vukašinović who, although a pioneer, has definitely found a place in this team.

It doesn’t happen that often that we have a cadet team that has the depth of a puput in its composition like Rad. But don’t think that it was done overnight and that the players created themselves. Nothing falls from the sky. We have been around rugby for quite a long time, and we have been following youth rugby for a long time. When this generation was formed, they were in the middle of nowhere, where they could not beat RK Singidunum, which had very fast players. However, after some time, Rad managed to draw first, and then beat Singidunum, thus overtaking them. But they succeeded with great effort and hard training and work. The dominant kid who made the difference didn’t emerge.

They had a similar situation when they joined the U14s. First, they had a big fight with RK Čelik, and a little later with Borce from Starčevo, who played a draw with Rada in a final tournament and won the title of Serbian Champion. Again, a high motivation for them, where they overtook all the teams with effort and commitment and achieved the result that we mentioned at the beginning of this impression. Quality and constant work always brings results.

13. RK Dinamo 1954 U16s team on the rise

For the sake of Pančevac, we are extremely glad that we completely missed the mark before the start of the season. At that time, we did not pay much attention to Dinamo, because we thought that they would not enter the fight for medals. During this half-season, they have grown into a serious team. And that in a competition where the Rada team is indisputable. At the very beginning of the season, we thought that Rad would win the Championship, and that Borac from Starčevo and Čelik would fight for the title, while the rest were below the mentioned three teams.

Photo: Vanja Bejin

Nothing happens overnight. Practice has shown that it is always the most difficult to maintain a U16s team. It is a huge job, where a lot of time and resources are invested to get a quality team. If you rubbed the magic lamp and demanded the cadet team from the spirit, he would look at you with a raised eyebrow and say that it is a long process, there is no instant success. A great effort brings with it a great reward, and where can you get a greater reward than a quality cadet team and players.

During the year, Dinamo improved its form and quality of play. He based his game equally on the scrum and the line. Filip Grozdić and Lazar Grozdić, U14s who also show their quality in the cadets, play in the scrum in the position of the first line. Mateja Krčadinac is a serious force at the point guard position, while Nikola Begunić and Danilo Bošković are standard in the second line. Vojin Cvetanović is scrumhalf, while Vuk Oluški is the playmaker, that is, the flyhalf. The central pair of Mateja Caran and Jovan Rakić, BRK Crvena Zvezda player, who plays under license for Pančevci, provides excellent games in the field. On the wing is Nikola Čobanin, who often retreats to the defensive part of the field. During the season, Mihajlo Popović, Stefan Komnenović, among others, left an impression on us.

We now expect even greater progress from this Dinamo team in the next half-season. After the break comes the preseason, where the difference is made. The more you train, the better your results will be when the season starts. What we would like to see is the appearance of Dinamo in an international tournament or in an international match. Be that as it may, we will follow them separately in the next half-season.

14. U14 competition full of talents

This season we were at only one U14s tournament. And after that tournament we realized that we made a serious mistake because we had the opportunity to see serious games and serious players. We are not writing this to have something to write, but we followed almost every match with our mouths open as we were fascinated. Literally every team that performed has several very good players. It’s an understatement to say that we were fascinated and amazed. When we add to that that a lot of parents come and watch rugby, then we have everything we need, good rugby and plenty of spectators.

U14s teams are quite stable, with players who have been training for several years. Here you have BRK Crvena Zvezda, RK Dinamo 1954 and RK Rad, which are almost equal. RK Dorćol 1998 is slightly weaker, while RK Žarkovo is a young team that is gaining experience. RK Čelik from Zenica was undisputed this year, they won all the tournaments, absolutely deserved. When you watch our three leading teams and RK Celik, you have rugby with all the elements of rugby. It seems that the field is small, and it is for them, because they have seriously outgrown it, and it must be expanded for their development.

The biggest impression on us was the defense, the strength of the contact and the scoring after several phases. For many years the junior level was to pass the ball to the biggest or fastest player who either breaks or runs past other players and scores a try. Well, now that’s history. Serious, strong and organized rugby is now being played. And to tell you the truth, we can’t wait for the continuation of the season.

15. Great vibes at the beach rugby tournament in Novi Sad

Sand rugby is something that Serbian rugby has been missing all these years. RK Vojvodina organized an international tournament this year, which was at a high level. A total of 7 teams took part in the tournament, one of them from abroad, namely Arsenal from Tivat. The point is to spend the whole day at the tournament with your favorite sport, music, friendly and positive atmosphere. The editorial team of the portal was at the tournament and we have only good impressions from it. We would love to have several events like this during the summer, it would be quite fun. Rugby doesn’t have to be torture in secret, where you’re always fighting something or everyone without anyone ever hearing that rugby even exists.

16. Huge opportunity for development projects: rugby in the 3rd category of Serbian sport .

Huge success of the Rugby Union of Serbia and rugby as a sport in Serbia. No one may be aware of what this means, but it will increase the linear funding of rugby at all levels. That is why it is very important for clubs to ask local self-governments which projects they can apply for. You should definitely use all the opportunities that are provided. Administrative tasks are often neglected, but they can actually bring a lot of benefits. Apply for projects, ask questions, every dinar comes in handy.

17. Interesting B League, the return of Loznica to the competition

At the beginning of the season, we thought that Vojvodina would walk through the B League like a rooster through a hen house. Which was the case after two tournaments, but during the season Kruševac put it in fifth gear, which led to the fact that in the last match of the last tournament it was decided who would win the B group. In the end, Vojvodina was better than Kruševac with a score of 19-12 and secured the first place.

However, the biggest impression is the return of RK Loznica to official competitions after almost a year and a half. A very good sign that made Group B even more interesting. Even in the third tournament, Loznica defeated Vojvodina and brought uncertainty into the competition. They particularly pleased us with their reactivation. We believe that the establishment of a rugby center in that part of Serbia is necessary. They would like it even more if the rugby school, which had notable results, was reactivated.
