How system of 7s competition looks like?
In total, there are three rugby 7 tournaments of the Serbian Championship on the program. At the beginning of each tournament, the draw and schedule of matches is made. Depending on the number of teams in the tournament, how it will be played is seen. For example, on Sunday there were five teams in the tournament and they played according to the system of each against each other. Using Berger’s tables, the schedule of matches was made. If there were six teams, two groups of 3 teams would be made, where after the matches in the groups, there would be playoffs.
At the end of each tournament, a winner is declared who wins 10 points. The second-placed team wins 8, then the next 6, then 4, then 3, then 2 and finally all the others get one point. At the end of the tournament series, the points are added up and a ranking is made. With the deductive abilities of a small child, we can conclude that the team that won the most points wins the Rugby 7 Championship of Serbia.
How to follow the results, the table and the list of scorers of the Rugby 7 Championship of Serbia?
Very easily, at any time you can check the current situation on our page that follows the 7s rugby. We may make updates the day after the tournament, but we certainly try to be fast, accurate and efficient.
If you want to follow the results of the first tournament, we recommend clicking on the event located in the tournament schedule section. There you will find some basic information about the tournament and results.
The first tournament was also scored for the Championship of Vojvodina
If you were confused about where the cup came from in the first tournament, we already have the answer ready. The first tournament was scored as the Championship of Vojvodina, so the winner of the tournament is also the winner of the Championship of Vojvodina. So there was also a small awarding ceremony at the end of the competitive part.
Tournament standings
We will not write the results in the article. You can see them here. The first place in the tournament was taken by RK Rad, which recorded all four victories. A very convincing game and fully deserved 10 points from the premiere tournament go to Banjica. BRK Crvena Zvezda started quite convincingly and in the end took second place with two wins, one draw and one loss. Vojvodina was a bit of a surprise in the tournament, where with two wins and two losses, it ended up third. Kruševljani had a good finish to the match, where they could very easily have entered the fight for a higher ranking in the end. Thus, one win with one draw and two defeats is enough for fourth place. Dinamo, from whom we expected much more, is a disappointment. Unfortunately, Ivan Voštić, the best player, was injured at the beginning of the second match and Pančevci couldn’t do better than four defeats and last place.

RK Rad were superior
The Builders looked like a very serious team and fully deserved to win the first tournament. Even to the eye to see how they looked before the start of the tournament, it seemed that they were going to walk through the competition. They warmed up before every match, they were the only ones who had equipment and props for warming up. In the end, they strolled through the competition, winning every match convincingly except for the last one, which had no significance as a result.
The game itself throughout the tournament was very good. It was not quite a classic 7s, but it was extremely effective, especially on the defensive end. The offense worked well, scoring over 20 points in every match. For now, they stand out as the first favorites of the competition.
Very tough competition
Rugby 7s is a very intense and demanding sport. Although the match lasts 14 minutes, there are 7 players per team on the field and pretty much everything happens quickly and at speed. That is exactly why it is allowed to play a maximum of four matches per day. But throughout the day, not in 4 hours as we played the first tournament. Why? Well, there are great efforts, there can be material fatigue, great efforts and injuries, as was the case at the tournament. When we add the sun and warm weather to that, we get not very good playing conditions.
And what can we say about the three reffs. To make matters worse for them, they always rotated so that 10 games were with the head referee and 2 assistant referees. Honestly, we don’t know how they lasted because they were on their feet for 4 hours. Just try being in the sun for 4 hours, sipping juice and eating ice cream, and it will be tiring.
If we want rugby to be a popular sport and a place where people want to spend their free time at the weekend, we must do everything to create good conditions. This playing of the weeks in a way where everyone can’t wait for the tournament to be over and go home, it is not at all in favor of the development of rugby. Rather, it will be in favor of the fact that people no longer want to spend time on rugby because it is tiring and tiring.
Rugby 7s should be a joy to play. It should provide players with excellent conditions both on the field and for recovery. Our suggestion is that the tournament lasts the whole day. The first part of the competition can be played in the morning, then a two-hour break for lunch. Then the next block of matches will be played in the early afternoon. To take an hour’s refreshment break and to play the last block of matches in the late afternoon. The teams would be more relaxed, they would see much better rugby, because the players would be more rested. They would hang out more and talk about rugby.
Lack of ambience and accompanying content
At rugby 7 tournaments, the atmosphere is not just a marked field, goalposts and five balls. Although we didn’t even have those five balls. The grass on the field was not adequately cut. Although it was also excellent compared to the grass around the field, where we had the feeling that we were more in a wildlife reserve in the Serengeti than in Pancevo.
On the field itself, there was not enough space for the teams to hide from the sun. However, shade was used on the stands of the main field where the teams were sheltering from the sun. Rugby fans were not so lucky in the stands of the auxiliary field, because there was no shelter from the sun. There was no refreshment whatsoever. Conditions in the stands were worse than the Eastern Front in World War II when the Soviets were retreating and destroying everything in behind of them. Although hand to heart, the Germans were left with rivers, and the people in the stands in Pančevo did not have any liquid at their service. If you wanted to freshen up, you could go to the restaurant at the stadium, but there was no working toilet, so you couldn’t relieve yourself.
That is why it is not surprising that almost no one came to see off the tournament from the audience. Why bother in this sun? Everyone would prefer to drink a refreshing drink in the shade and watch the rugby. But we understand, it’s really the hardest thing to bring an umbrella and a fridge and sell drinks directly on the field.

Young players have taken the lead
Ever since we opened the site and started writing about rugby, we’ve been fed up with how young players are slowly taking over the primacy. Well, now they have completely taken it over. In every club, they became the main players of the game. We will try to list as many of them as possible, because we really want to highlight their importance.
We must especially mention that the hosts, i.e. Dinamo, had the youngest team in the tournament. But a team that is quite experienced and that has gone through schooling in the younger categories. The vast majority of players were born in 2004 . The oldest was Mihailo Marjanović who was born in 2000 . Kuzmanović, Vasić, Adžić and the team form a fairly strong core that is a great pledge for the future. We did not mention Ivan Voštić (2003), who is a national team player caliber for us. There is no winter for the people of Kruševac. Lazić, Krsmanović, Jovanović and Mitić are part of the team from the junior division, which also took its place in the senior 7s. And at a very high level. Ivan Škrbić stood out for Vojvodina, who was an excellent option both in attack and defense.
At BRK Crvena Zvezda, you had to choose what you wanted from the young people. If you wanted one of the best players in the tournament, there is Dragan Kokanović. If you wanted a playmaker, there is Momčilo Kralj. If you wanted strong and breakthrough players, there are Jelisavčić and Pumpalović. Rad had in its ranks very high-quality young players like Stojanović and Jevđenijević, who are part of the class of 2004 and who are already standard first-team players of the team from Banjica, and Stojanović is also a member of the Serbian national team.
We haven’t mentioned all the players for sure, but believe that the future is assured in terms of quality.
Small number of teams in the competition
Somehow, before the start of each season week, we always hope to have more teams. But somehow we always revolve around 5-6 teams. In addition to these 5 teams, RK Dorćol 1998 also applied for the competition itself, which will join from the next tournament. There are several other teams that potentially have a team but have not registered for the competition.
Here, above all, we think of RK Partizan, which was a regular in the fight for the highest ranking. There is also the RK Torpedo Mlava team that plays in the A group of the Serbian Championship. Among the teams that could potentially try out on the big stage is Borac from Starčevo, which has an extremely young and promising team, although we think that at least another year needs to pass until all the youngsters are ready for the big stage. Other teams do not exist or did not compete this year.
Uneven terrain, poor warm-up, serious injuries
The pitch is far better than the pitch we are used to playing rugby on. But it still has a lot of nerves and if it is not watered down before the tournament it can be quite hard and awkward to play. Rugby 7s is a fast game played at a high tempo, and any roughness can affect the speed of play and injuries. And there were a lot of non-contact injuries on that field when someone falls into a hole and sprains their leg. Some are more lucky, some less so.
Although playing on hard ground can be overcome to some extent with a good and thorough warm-up, once you have prepared your body and joints for heavy exertion. Rugby is a very serious coalition sport, with strong contacts, where you have to be ready at any moment. Let go of the fluff rugby is for everyone, there is nonsense being pushed in the absence of better promotion and marketing. Rugby should be taken very seriously and is not for someone who does not want to pay more attention to this sport.
Let’s go back to the warm-up. Most teams do not warm up and prepare for the game properly. One of the problems is that coaches are also players, so they cannot pay attention to the others and correct irregularities because they themselves have to warm up. And the vast majority of players warm up with intensity as if they’re entering the sea to frolic after they’ve gorged themselves overeat. Then you can blame bad luck, the heavenly forces, talk about how there’s always someone against you, and basically just look in the mirror and point the finger.
