Rugby autumn in Serbia

Find out everything about this fall's competitions in Serbia. Also, on the site you have separate sections that will follow each competition individually.

Serbia is starting a new cycle in Europe

The Serbian 15-a-side Rugby Championship will not be played this half-season either. Given that the clubs do not have the playing staff to see off this type of competition. The situation is now quite alarming as far as senior rugby is concerned. Hardly anyone has training at all, without joining the younger categories. We recently fantasized about how good it would be to have 20+ players at club training sessions. Now we have come to a situation where almost no one trains rugby. This problem will directly affect the senior national team, which is waiting for two international appearances. First, we will welcome the French army team on 28/29. September, which will be our warm-up match. While a week later we will welcome Moldova in the match that opens the season in the Conference of the Rugby Europe.

We have two very serious matches without the majority of our players having undergone physical preparations over the summer. The only preparation they will have is the rugby 10 tournament which is being played now on Sunday where there will probably not be more than three teams, if there are that many. This state of affairs is not good and what is disappointing is that there is no indication of a plan or idea how these problems can be overcome.

We weren’t in too much of a better situation last year either when we traveled to Moldova and lost 31-11. At that time, we barely gathered 23 players who traveled to away games. We hope that this time we will have more players that we can count on both in the country and from abroad, because we are still playing on our home field. Finally, we have a warm-up match, where we can practice and try out tactical combinations. That’s what we lacked in previous seasons. Both matches should be played at the stadium of FK Železnik in the Belgrade suburb of the same name. We have no information about the exact time and day of both matches.

Unfortunately, this season too, rugby 10 will be played instead of rugby 15. This is the reality of rugby in Serbia, which sinks more and more as time passes. Three tournaments are planned. The first tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 15, starting at 4 p.m. on the auxiliary field of the City Stadium in Pancevo. The team that wins the most points at the end of the competition will lift the trophy this half-season.

If you want to follow the competition in rugby 10, you can do so on the station of our website.

We will try to be quite up to date with the results, standings and scorers list.

Serbian Cup

The autumn part of the season is already traditionally, several seasons ago, reserved for the Serbian Cup. With the fact that rugby 15 will not be played in this competition either, but two tournaments in rugby 10 will be held. We assume that the points from both tournaments will be added up and that the team with the most points will win the Serbian Cup. You can follow the Serbian Cup competition on our website.

Youths rugby

As everyone already knows, the competition system in Serbian rugby is such that the Cup is played in the spring and the Serbian Championship in the fall. Also, we would like to remind you that from September 1, there were changes in the year in all categories, that is, it was moved forward by one year. WE will pay special attention to the younger categories this season and hope to write more about them. Unfortunately, the trend of declining numbers in domestic rugby continues, without any serious plan to stop and improve the performance. The seniors have been in trouble for a long time, and unfortunately we think that in this half-season we will find out how much of a problem we will be in in the younger categories.

Serbian Championship for U18 juniors

Unlike last year, four tournaments will be played this time. We absolutely support the decision to play as much as possible, because we believe that this is what young rugby players need. Just like a few seasons ago, the tournaments will be played in the format of the Olympic discipline of rugby 7. Players born in 2006 and 2007 have the right to participate in the juniors competition , while players born in 2008 can play with a special permit.

A total of five teams registered for the competition. RK Rad from Belgrade is the defender of the trophy won last year and they will be the main favorites to defend the title again this year. Dinamo from Pancevo can be expected to give Rada the most trouble and try to steal some points from the Belgraders. The people of Loznica will also have a team in the junior competition this year, which is fantastic information for domestic rugby. After a short break, Kruševac registered a team and we expect very good games from them, because they have players who have been training for a long time. In the end, Dorćolci will make their debut in the U18 junior competition and we can expect a great fight from them and who knows, maybe they will manage to surprise one of the teams.

Serbian Championship for U16 cadets

The change of year will completely change the balance of power this fall compared to last season. As with other age categories, four tournaments will be played. Three teams applied for the competition, Rad, Dinamo and Zvezda. There will be no Dorcol this half-season. Dinamo will definitely be the favorite because they have an excellent output generation and a physical advantage. Work will not lag too far, and we expect excellent matches during the season. As for Red Star, the question is how many tournaments they will be able to take part in, every tournament they take part in is a huge gain for Serbian rugby. Players born in 2008 and 2009 have the right to participate in the competition , players born in 2010 can play with special permission.

Serbian Championship for U14s pioneers

As many as seven teams applied for the competition this year: RK Rad, RK Dinamo 1954, RAS Smederevo, RK Torpedo Mlava, RK Dorćol 1998 RK Borac Starčevo, RK Žarkovo and BRK Crvena Zvezda. Four tournaments will be played, which we support more than anything else. Although 9 teams applied for the competition, the question is what is the state of the teams. We will find out the real situation after the first tournament. Players born in 2010 and 2011 have the right to participate in the competition , while players born in 2012 can play with a special permit.

Serbian Championship for U14s roosters

Although as many as eight teams applied for the competition, that information should be taken with a grain of salt, at least in the first part of the season. And for the simple reason that a large number of players have become pioneers, and mass rugby presentation actions have not yet begun, primarily in schools. However, for the youngest rugby players, the tournament will take place more than last season. Players born in 2012 and 2013 have the right to participate in the competition, while players born in 2014 can play with a special permit.
