The idea is to clarify what the competition will look like in the new season, who will participate and how you can see it off in the best way. The beginning of each season is always very exciting for us because, among other things, we are looking forward to the matches that we have to admit, we have been looking forward to quite a bit. We are especially interested in the younger categories, what the teams will look like and what the number will be after the completion of the development projects. In the younger categories, there can be quite a few changes in the pre-season, so we sincerely hope that the changes will be positive.
We will try to explain as much as we can and give you guidance and information on how to stay informed about everything related to the competition. We believe that this is very important because it can greatly affect the popularity of rugby in our country. After all, it is very important when you know where you can get information and how you can follow events from matches and tournaments. We will also give you recommendations on which sites to read and which pages to follow so that you can always be informed about the current events of Serbian rugby.
How is the competition system made?
The topic may be boring, but for some it is useful information. The competition is created and managed by the Development and Competition Manager within the Rugby Union of Serbia. In consultation with the participants in the competition, he brings the proposal of the competition to the Board of Directors of the Union, which approves it. Then there is a date until when clubs needs to register for competition. When the teams register for the competition, a draw is organized, where the pairs for the league competitions are drawn. In our case, the draw was organized only for the Serbian Championship of Group A. Once the draw is complete, the Development and Competition Manager creates the Competition Calendar and Competition Rules. Then the Calendar and Rules go again to the Union Board of Directors, which adopts them, and then they become official documents.

Competition system in the Serbian Championship
The best competition in Serbia. This year, 4 teams are participating. RK Rad is defending champion. RK Partizan, RK Dinamo 1954 and RK Torpedo Mlava are the clubs that, in addition to the defending champions, will participate in the race to win the Serbian Championship. It is planned to be played in three rounds, according to the system of each against each other. Each team will meet three times with other teams. A total of 9 rounds are planned, that is, there will be a total of 18 games in the Serbian Championship. The team that collects the most points at the end of the season will win the Serbian Championship.
It is planned to play 5 rounds in the spring part of the competition and four rounds in the fall. The dates of the autumn games will be known when the autumn competition calendar is published. The competition calendar is good, it is not burdensome for the clubs and it is to be expected that all the games will be played without any problems. The only drawback, if we can say so, is that the two matches between Partizan and Rad will take place in the spring. If one of those two clubs triumphs in both matches, the Championship will de facto be his. That would not be a good scenario because the competition would be totally uninteresting until the end of the season.
You can follow the results, the table and the list of scorers on the part of our website that follows the Serbian Championship.
We will not talk about the clubs participating in the competition in this article. We plan to publish a separate article for each club, where we will pay special attention to them. We think it would be an interesting read. By the way, lest we forget, the Serbian Cup is already traditionally played in the fall, so before the fall half-season, team registration and the draw will be held.

Serbian Championship 2nd grade
There are a lot of changes in 2nd Grade compared to last season. The number of participants has increased, as well as the number of tournaments. In total, six teams applied for the competition, namely: RK Loznica, RK Kruševac, BRK Crvena Zvezda, RK Vojvodina, RK Rad 2 and RK Dorćol in 1998. A total of seven tournaments are planned, four tournaments will be held in the spring part of the season, three in the fall. The team that collects the most points will win the 2nd grade. As in previous seasons, the tournaments will be played in a rugby 10-a-side format. You can follow the results, the schedule and the list of shooters on a separate page of our website.
We will not dwell much on the2nd grade, because we will dedicate a separate article to the competing teams.
Serbian Rugby 7s Championship
As a rule, 7s rugby is already played in the spring part of the season. Team registration for this competition will take place a little later in the season. Compared to the previous year, three tournaments will be played. Two tournaments are planned for May and one for the second part of June. The first two tournaments will be held before the European Championship of Conference 1, which will be held in Belgrade. So the coaching staff will have the opportunity to test and analyze all candidates for the national team. The champion of Serbia in rugby 7 will be the team that wins the most points after three tournaments. You can follow all the current events related to the competition on our website page.
Youths rugby
Just to note for those who don’t know. The Serbian Cup is played in the spring part of the season, and the Serbian Championship in the younger categories in the autumn part. As in previous seasons, the competition will take place in 4 age categories: U18s , U16s, U14s and U12s. There have been hints that official competitions for the U10s and possibly younger are also being organized. However, official competitions do not have to be the only activities, clubs can cooperate with each other and play test matches.

As in the previous season, RK Čelik from Zenica should participate in competitions of younger categories. Čelik has a very good rugby school and with his participation he certainly raises the quality of the competition.
U18s Serbian Cup
Unlike last season, only three tournaments will be played this year. The reason for this is that the activities of the U18 and U20 national team of Serbia are also expected. This is exactly the reason why one less tournament is played. As in previous seasons, the tournaments will be played in the rugby 7 format. A total of 5 teams from Serbia will take part, along with RK Čelik, who will compete outside the competition. You can follow the competition and the teams that registered for the competition on our page that follows the Cup of Serbia for U18s.
The reduction of the U18s tournament was inevitable for several reasons. The first reason is representative obligations, as we have already announced. And the second reason is that the vast majority of juniors compete in senior competition. We are aware of the fact that perhaps young players should not be forced into senior competition, because in countries where rugby is popular, they want to avoid 18-year-olds competing with established 30-year-olds.
Here, the situation is quite different, the level of club rugby is not as high as it used to be. The boys who have now left the junior stage have not only taken their place in the senior competition, but are slowly taking on more and more important roles in the team, and some are already leading the game. Now we have a situation where there are not too many players in the senior competition who play at a high level. And the young people who come from the youth system are of exceptional quality and will very quickly take their place in the first teams of their clubs.

U16 Serbian Cup
For U16s, nothing has changed in the competition system. 4 tournaments are played during the day. The team that collects the most points at the end of the competition wins the Serbian Cup. U16s play in a full-field rugby 10 format. You can follow the competition as well as the teams that registered for the competition on our page that follows the Cup of Serbia for U16s.
U14s Serbian Cup
There were no major changes for the U14s either, except that the competition will be more massive than last year. A total of 7 teams applied for the competition, if we add RK Celik, we should have 8 teams. 4 tournaments are played, at the end of the competition, the team that wins the most points wins the Serbian Cup. The U14s play in the Rugby 10-a-side. You can follow the competition as well as the teams that entered the competition via our page that follows the Serbian Cup for U14s.
U12s Serbian Cup
There are changes in the U12s. One tournament was added, so a total of 4 tournaments are played. The U12 boys play in a rugby format 8-a-side. The team that wins the most points at the end of the competition wins the Serbian Cup. As many as 8 teams applied for the competition, including RK Čelik 9. You can follow the competition as well as the teams that applied for participation on our page that follows the Cup of Serbia for U12s.
