RK Torpedo Mlava is the youngest club in Serbia, whose next season will be the fourth since its foundation. Although they are a very young club, they play in the A group of the Serbian Championship, which is why we can take our hat off to them. After being the best in the 2nd grade twice in a row, they decided to try themselves in the A group last season. Although they suffered all defeats, they were extremely close to Dinamo in all three matches. For us, it is definitely a great success that they completed the season. The people of Petrovac know very well that consistency is the way to a stable first league team.
And when we talk about the range, it primarily depends on them. Last season, Torpedo had a very good scrum that was able to match even the best teams in the league at certain times. But they lacked discipline in the game, where they received several tries precisely because of it. We will specify. When the referee judges a penalty against you, your task is to immediately position yourself as quickly as possible within ten meters of the spot of the offense marked by the referee. You do not turn your back on the opponent, but retreat while focusing on him. It’s a game-winning style of rugby that leaves no room for the opposition to quickly take a penalty and take advantage of a weak defensive set-up.
Although they are the youngest active club, the boys from Petrovac na Mlava are really thinking about the future. They have been working with the youth drive for the second year. This year, after the successful promotion in schools and the winter league, there will be selections in the rooster and pioneer competitions. Why are we writing this to you if the article is about the senior team? Because in a few years those youngsters will be educated players when they reach the first team. Is there anything better than when trained players join your team, where you can focus more on tactics and game plan during training sessions.
What will the Torpedo team look like?
Forwards
The scrum game was one of the Torpedo’s main weapons last season. But without the first line you can’t play the game. One of the main assets in that position is Aleksa Dobrosavljević. A young player from the class of 2001 who was also on the broader roster for the national team. Excellent in contact, very penetrating. Miloš Mihoci represents stability in the scrum and is a player who can really make a difference on the field.
Aleksa Atanasković, a player who was in the protocol of the match of the Serbian national team against Bulgaria, is in the position of hooker. Another in a galaxy of young players who are very talented. Penetrating player who changes direction quickly, makes a modern tackler. Excellent in statics. An athlete who, when in shape, makes a difference on the field. Ivan Miljković, who can play at a high pace, is also a quality option on the counter. Ivan is an all-rounder in the scrum and can cover several positions just like Aleksa.
Miloš Vujčić is a versatile player who can cover everything, from the post to the third line. However, his physique and speed make him a second-line player who also does very well in the third line. Very often we could see Nikola Knežević in a pair with him, who knows how to play the demanding roles played by the second line. You won’t see the players of the second line in the highlights dribbling and throwing the ball behind the back, the second line does serious and hard work in the field. Nikola and Miloš were up to the task last season, so we expect a lot from them this season.
In the third line, there are several very high-quality options. The first is definitely Aleksandar Đorđević, who brings the experience of playing in France to the team. Excellent on both sides of the court. A very penetrating player. Marko Živković is a very fast and physically strong player who, in our opinion, is best at winger positions in the scrum, but he can also cover the center position very well. He has a very good shot.
Another universal player is Milan Životić, a demi in the body of a scrum player. Believe it or not, he can play very well in the demi position, but he can also be an option in the third line. Whatever task is entrusted to him, you can expect him to be fulfilled. Jovan Kostić is a player who can cover numerous positions in the team. However, for us he is an ideal third line player. He likes the contact game, he is penetrating, very good both in defense and in attack. What is the characteristic of wingmen in the scrum. Miloš Malenović is another player from the constellation of youngsters whose time is yet to come. He does very well in positions in the third line. Can also cover some positions as needed and in the line.
Backs
In the position of demi in Torpedo, Stefan Janković is undisputed. He can also cover both wing positions very well. He is characterized by speed and explosiveness, where he can quickly change direction in a small space. He is extremely physically strong which makes him a very difficult target to take down. In addition to Stefan, we have already mentioned Milan Životić, who can cover the demi position if needed.
The creation of the opening game was entrusted to Nemanja Zdravković, an offshoot of the Kruševac rugby school. We did not include him in the reinforcements because he played for Torpedo last season. He has an excellent overview of the game, which allows him to better manage his team’s attack. Excellent on both sides of the court. His versatility allows him to cover several positions on the field. He has excellent physical predispositions, where his height gives him a great advantage in the game in the air.
The center line was quite effective last season. Here, above all, we are thinking of Aleksandar Savić, who was also the most effective Torpedo player in the last season of the Serbian Championship with four goals scored. Extremely physically strong player who can cover several positions in the scrum. He caused a lot of problems for opposing centers who had to pay special attention to him. Very often, Marko Živković was paired with Aleksandar. We have already said a few words about Mark earlier in the text. Adam Pavlovic is another quality option that can cover the center position. He also does well on the wing.
In the position of winger and fullback, we must first of all mention Lazar Grubić, who returned to Torpedo after playing for Partizan. Rugby 7’s representative with considerable experience. We can’t wait to see him back in the Torpedo jersey, where we expect a lot from him in the coming year. A young player, who is only 24 years old and has yet to enter his prime. Predrag Stanojević and Petar Miladinović are players who cover the wing positions. Extremely young players who are primarily expected to gather as much experience as possible.
Reinforcements of RK Torpedo before the new season
Torpedo will be strengthened this year by Uroš Martinović, a representative of the Serbian national team and a player who plays both codes in Serbia. He plays in the pole position, has exceptional physical predispositions. For his size, he has excellent technique, very effective in open play. We will not waste words on statics because he has the experience of playing international matches. A trained player who can meet the challenges of playing at a high tempo.
What can we expect from Torpedo this season?
First of all, we can expect them to catch up with the leading teams. We also expect a big fight with Dinamo from Pancevo, because we think that Partizan and Rad are currently unattainable. This can be done very easily if all the advantages of the team are used, first of all we mean scrum play and actions from the scrum. If mistakes are eliminated and discipline is strengthened, the game can be raised to a high level. Small things can affect the game and later the result in their own way. Torpedo visits Partizan in the first round, the match is scheduled for Sunday the 12th of march, kickoff at 15h.
