Atmosphere and ambience around the field
In Starčevo, you can always count on an excellent ambience and a good atmosphere. It is one of the two fields in Serbia that have fixed posts. Care is taken on the field as well as around the field. You will not see examples of officials and players not playing the game standing or sitting in knee-deep grass. You always have natural shade because you have a nice line of trees around the field. The hosts will ensure that there are always refreshments available by the court, so that the veterans can be rewarded after good moves on the court.
Why is it important to take part in the veteran tournament?
Rugby is a sport that is not popular in Serbia. You won’t randomly bump into kids on the street who learned the rules by watching the games on television. Veterans play the biggest role here, because it is they who can share their positive experience with the younger ones or get involved in the functioning of already existing clubs in any way. Or to found a new club, what not. And where will you find a better exchange of ideas and rugby philosophy than a veterans tournament?
Not everyone has to get involved physically in helping the clubs, those who have less time can also contribute in other ways. They can sponsor a club or help get sponsorship or donations. The point of it all is that rugby develops and that the tradition is still maintained. Veterans are people who have already established their lives and who can do a lot for rugby’s legacy.
The point is to find your place in rugby where, according to your abilities and your time, you can contribute the most. Your two hours a month can mean a lot to rugby. If you spend those two hours enjoying rugby, then it’s a fantastic feeling and experience, both for you personally and for rugby. And rugby is simply crying out for enthusiasts and volunteers.
