Veterans stronger than the storm

Although there was a huge storm right before the start of the tournament, although it rained continuously during the tournament, it did not stop the veterans from playing rugby.

Last Saturday 15th tvets tournament held in Starčevo, organizied by RK Bprac Starčevo. When we take all the circumstances into account, and above all the huge storm that roared through Serbia right before the start of the tournament, we can be extremely satisfied with the outcome. We must point out that during the tournament it rained non-stop, which together with the very soft pitch made ideal conditions for rugby.

To be a participant in the tournament you didn’t have to be on the field and play rugby. Participation in the veteran tournament is taken by everyone who is actually there, who tried their best in their own way to improve the event, so that it is organized as well as possible. And everything was organized with the goal, above all, of fun, socializing and very good rugby.

When it comes to rugby, a total of 3 teams took part: Borac from Starčevo, Dorćol and GRK Vršac, i.e. slightly more than 40 players. Apart from players from these three teams, there were also representatives of Mamut, Dinamo, Žarkov, then Krčmar from Zenica, as well as guests from abroad. The results of the matches are not important, so we will not publish them, we will just say that it was extremely intense and interesting.

After the match, the third half started soon, where the veterans had the opportunity to socialize, exchange experiences, and meet familiar and dear faces. To always talk about rugby, because it is now a current topic, because in a little more than a month the World Cup will start in France. After the banquet, a ceremonial awarding ceremony was held for all participants and those responsible for organizing the tournament. Shortly afterwards, there was a party with live music where the veterans could have a good time and round off a very successful day of rugby.

The best thing that can happen from veterans reunions is that most people think about how they can get involved in rugby again. The vast majority of people really don’t have too much time, but would like to contribute in some way as a volunteer. Let’s take for example that you invest four hours a month in rugby, let’s say your club plays a tournament or a match, and you are there for the club once a month, four hours and on that very day. If there are five people who would invest four hours together on the same day, that would be immeasurably good for rugby. Let’s say you organize a tournament for U12s, two volunteers are in charge of marking and maintaining the field during the tournament, the third volunteer takes photos, the fourth records and the fifth prepares a barbecue for the participants. None of the volunteers will spend more than 4 hours that day, and the result will be a well-organized tournament with a lot of content. There are 720 hours per month, if you give 4 hours to rugby, you will spend minimal time and maximize the effect for your club.
