Tournament system of competition
The competition system is designed to play a total of 6 tournaments. The team that wins the most points at the end of the series wins the Serbian Championship, Group B. The plan was to play three tournaments in the spring part and three tournaments in the autumn part. In the spring, a total of one tournament was played, while two were cancelled, in the autumn part everything that was planned was played. In total, four tournaments were completed, while two were not even held. Rugby 10 is played in the tournaments.
Of the six registered teams at the beginning of the competition, four teams performed: RK Kruševac, RK Vojvodina, RK Loznica and RK Rad 2. Kruševac and Vojvodina participated in all held tournaments, Loznica participated in two and Rad 2 participated in one tournament. The first tournament was organized in Kruševac, while the other three were organized in Belgrade at Ada Ciganlija.
Great fight in the last tournament
Until the last tournament, Vojvodina had a two-point lead over Kruševac. So the match between these two teams was expected. In the first match of the tournament, the teams of Loznica and Kruševac met. Kruševljani were under pressure to win, in order to stay in the game for the title. In the end, they managed to defeat the fighting people from Loznica with a score of 12-0.
And then came the match of the day. Already after 30 seconds, after Kruševac’s initial shot, we saw the first excitement of the match. Vojvodina formed a ruck in the center of the field, where the ball was passed to the winger who gave a timely offload to Aljoša Marinković, who scored an try. Rajko Janović was successful in the transformation for 7-0.
After five minutes of the match, the score was 14-0 for Vojvodina, who scored a new try after a five-meter scrum by Kruševac. Vojvodina’s furious play continued in the first part of the match, where they scored the third try for a score of 19-0. But the Kruševljani did not give up. And already towards the end of the first part of the match, they succeeded after a good penetration by Ivković, who added an offload to Miletić, who reduced the score to 19-5.
In the second part of the match, Kruševljani came to a 7-point difference with a converted essay, but they did not have the strength to turn it around. Vojvodina kept the advantage and won with a score of 19-7. After this match, the Novosađani routinely did their job against Loznica, where they convincingly celebrated with a score of 42-0. With this victory, they triumphed in the tournament as well as in the general ranking.

Vojvodina and Kruševac are at the A group level
There is nothing to add to this statement except that both teams played at a high level. For many years, Vojvodina participated in the A group of the Serbian Championship, it has two standard representatives of Serbia in the form of Rajko Janković and Dušan Jocić, as well as the representative of Montenegro Aljoša Marinković. And let’s not forget potential national team players like the Janićijević brothers, or veterans like Novosel and Porobić.
On the other hand, Kruševac is now enjoying the benefits of its youth academy, which together with older players forms a very strong core of the team. Don’t forget that Kruševac convincingly lost at home in the spring, in order to win Vojvodina and finally fight for the title. We will only mention young Nemanja Lazić, Aleksa Jovanović, Jovan Krsmanović and others. There are experienced Milan Bogdanović, Bogdan Mihajlović as well as Stefan Ivković who showed enviable form in the A group as well.
As far as we are concerned, these two teams can play equally with Torpedo, Dinamo and BRK Crvena Zvezda. They are a little further away from Rad and Partizan, but they can absolutely handle the teams we have listed. The only problem is the number of players, so it is not very realistic to expect the recent performance of these teams in the elite competition. But we would also like to see games played in the Rugby 15s and in the B group. Why not.
RK Loznica joined the competition
We must point out that we are very positively surprised that Loznica joined the B League of the Serbian Championship. The club from Western Serbia has not participated in competitions since the final of the B League, which took place in 2020. . So the news about the reactivation of Loznica is fantastic. Perhaps the youth school, which was one of the most numerous, is being reactivated. We would really like to see their continued performances.
Need for club from Belgrade in the B League
By that, we are not referring to the B teams of clubs from the A group. We are thinking of separate clubs that would compete in Group B. In the last two or three years, RK Dorćol 1998 also played, which simultaneously played rugby 13, but it turned out that the intensity of playing in two competitions was too much for them. In the past, RK Žarkovo under the name RK Balkanski komarac performed in the B group, but now Žarkovo exclusively works with younger categories.
We are of the opinion that Belgrade needs a club that could bring together both young people and players who would return to rugby, but would not play at the level of the A group. A large number of players from Belgrade believe that they are not currently able to play at the level of the A group, so they prefer to stop training rather than play in the highest level of the competition. Teams from the A group are holsters with the number of players, and whenever someone wants to return to rugby again, he is pushed to the maximum and gives up very quickly. Strategically, it would be great if a club was formed that would gather players only with the goal of playing in the B group, without pressure and obligations, with the goal of getting people back to rugby. If they want something more, they always have clubs in the A League where they can perform.
Who can perform in the B group next year?
Apart from Vojvodina, Loznica and Kruševac, we can always expect the B teams of teams from the first league to play in the B group. It is the practice of all clubs in the world to have B teams and players who play in lower levels of competition. Rad 2 already performed in the B group, so we can expect them to join the next season.
Don’t be surprised if you see the Borca team from Starčevo in the competition. Young Starčevci have been through several seasons of youth rugby and are very capable of playing at a high level. On the other hand, there are many veterans in Starčevo who can join the team and form a very serious team.
We believe that it would be a huge success if four teams constantly competed in the B group next season. Careful planning to increase the quality and quantity of the teams, as well as to make the tournament fun and interesting for everyone.
